The History Behind the Bingham Cup
The Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial Tournament was first held by IGR clubs in 2002 to honor Mark Bingham, who was a founding member of two IGR clubs in the US. He was a passenger on the United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked during the September 11 attacks in 2001. Mark was among the passengers who attempted to regain control of the plane, ultimately leading to it crashing in a field in Pennsylvania, killing all 44 people onboard, rather than its intended target. The womens+ bracket is named for his best friend, Amanda Mark.
